I've never handled a helmet like this before so please forgive my ignorance. 99 pence at a junk shop so I thought it worth taking a punt.

Good find for the price. As was said - ww2 era shell with the earlier insignia.
The shells themselves are very common - little nicer with the insignia badge, but you probably shouldn't hope for a lot...------------------------------------------------
