Italian WW2 Gas Mask dated 1938

I just got this at an auction on Sat. The tag on it read "ITALIAN WWII PERIOR GAS MASK... DATED 1938. AFRICAN CAMPAIGN USAGE" I would like to know if this is true or if not, what it is? Thanks for your time & consideration in advance. All oinions welcome. CHUCK

The tag is bull****, this is a French TC-38 gas mask for the civilian population in a somewhat more rare paper cannister. Nothing to do with Italy and as a matter of fact the standard Italian filterthread would not fit as they are 40mm while this one is certainly 42mm.
