Old traditional Chinese sword question?

This sword came from a grouping of the grandson which grandparents were wealthy people who did a lot of traveling in early 1900's. This one came with some other old Chinese antiques. My question was this: is this sword middle to late 1800's time period? I do not collect this type of swords so any help would be appreciated.

This appears to be a hand made chinese sword similar to martial arts types, but old , May be difficult to date for sure without better shots. I am unsure what this type sword was called, but someone will know...who knows where they traveled to find it....

Unfortunately I bought the collection of swords few years back so I did not take a picture, I still have few European pieces left and this sword . This was a very nice grouping of swords and antiques. I saw the pics of Chinese with there swords fighting Japanese, they look very similar to this one. But this sword is so far of my collection field that I do not where to start .
