I recently acquired this bronze statuette from the estate sale of a former collector of pre-1900 militaria. The uniform appears to me to be a mid-1800's French Officer but I'm not really sure. While I'm far from a fine arts expert, the bronze seems to my novice eyes to be a high quality piece (the detail of the officer's face, his moustache, etc. are very detailed). It"s height is approximately 14 1/2 inches. Any thoughts on ballpark value would also be appreciated. Thanks in advance for any help.

Are there any markings on the base? Having an artist or casting firm's name will make a huge difference in trying to value it.
Also, you'll likely do better with an antique art house than here. Try googling 'French bronze statuette'. No reflection on the users here but this is a very specialized field. I'd say, however, that it may well have some value - almost certainly a couple hundred dollars if not more, dpendiog n ona abunch of factors - artist, era, etc - which I don't know about.
Good luck. Please let us know what you find out!

Dede says "wwi' and he's probably right. I suspect many of these were made in WWI but that doesn't mean its not a lovely piece - I'd certainly give it house room. Just, not something you'll retire on the proceeds of. But do let use know if you find out more - markings are pretty traceable these days; bless the gods of the Web!
