Well, I don't know what you can and cannot read, but what I can see so far is:
-Written in the "Rue du General-Foy" to a mme Jones.
-Mentiones marshall Foch (died march 1929) and Myron T. Herrick (US Ambassador to France, died march 1929). The latter was "a great American, and a good friend of the French".
-He ends with a line about "me, my wife and my children", though I don't yet understand the rest...
Hope this helps a bit
Nice document!

Looks to be sent in response to a letter of Easter greetings from Mr & Mrs Jones (all in very formal polite language). He wishes them a smooth trip on their upcoming arrival to Paris where he will be happy to receive them.
2nd paragraph mentiones the bereavement of both figures (Foch & Herrick). He notes that the funeral for Herrick just occurred that very same day and were very moving. "It is a great American and a great friend of France that has disappeared".
Last paragraph effectively states that his wife, babies, etc join him in sending to Mr. & Mrs Jones their faithful thoughts.
Neat piece.------------------------------------------------

I wonder if this is in the General's hand?
Seems to me it would be some 'clerk/writer' would pen it and then just signed by the general like most of his correspondence would be.
In this case looks like this letter and its subject is to a close acquaintance (though the language is very formal), so it may be in his own hand.
Seems he did spend some time in the states so it might be some people he met there?

Seems I might know who 'Jones' is

Seems that Jones was one of the Deans at Harvard and a organizer of the early ROTC as Azan was an instructor there in 1917Last edited by byterock; 09-17-2012, 12:03 PM.
