    International American Institute Silver Palms

    Hi,

I came across this medal today and thought it an interesting looking decoration.

INTERNATIONALES AMERIKANISCHES INSTITUT. Silberne Palmen. 38mm am Band

Any idea what this medal was awarded for?
What time period was it awarded?
    North or South America?

    My thanks
    Pierce

Well the title - INTERNATIONALES AMERIKANISCHES INSTITUT. Silberne Palmen - looks German, not Spanish ["International American Institute, silver palms" in English.

So I wouldn't be looking to North or South America but Europe. Looks somewhat like some of the French civil awards as well - le Palme d'Or, for example - so my uninformed guess would be an academic or cultural award. Perhaps for promoting better relations between Germany and the USA? God knows, that would be a good thing! Modern?

          Hi Gordon,

I have already done this and he is unsure himself as to what it is. He does reckon it's a 1950's produced piece.

          Kind regards
          Pierce

              Pierece,

I found this reference, in German, on line a few days ago but didn't post it because I was unsure of its relavence. After considering it for a while, I decided to post an English translation of the German text as it may prove useful. The medal resmbles other French medals I have seen and the refernce to the Paris Peace Conference in the Eglish translation below may lead you in at least the right direction.
