    French 1918 "Almanach Trimestriel" - ??

Found this in a local antique store for $1 this afternoon.

Can anyone who actually reads French and / or is familiar with such things in general clue me in as to what this is?

    Thanks,

    Almanach

    I'll have a go.

Published before the end of the war (oct 1918), it gives the reader the list of the days' saints (in the catholic's calendar, each day has a saint attributed to it). It also gives the times of sunrise and sunset.
There is also a lottery number for the soldiers!
The speech by General Petain (not yet Marechal) reads something like this:

"We are fighting to chase the enemy out of our territory and to ensure that such an attack never happens again, by establishing a solid and complete peace.

We are fighting because it would be a crime to betray our dead and our children by our shameful failure.

We are fighting for peace to bring us back wealth and to avoid the discomfort that a badly-ended conflict would bring, which would be worse than that which we are currently suffering"

(or words to that effect...I am no professional translator!).

Interesting to read Petain's comments about a "badly-ended war" and its consequences as it is what Germany will suffer and what will bring on another war....Petain is still very controversial in France because of his position and actions during WW2. Hero or collaborator? He was certainly the French hero when he wrote this speech and this was a little propaganda to get those poor devils in the trenches to fight a little while longer....

Don't worry about your translation skills, they're certainly better than mine.

      Thanks for your help!

      P.S.
Anyone have a clue what something like this might be worth?
