What is this thing?It measures 14 inches long and is very heavy and solid.looks like copper and some other white metal.Has the old steel ring on the end.

WWI trench club? Looks like it may be a little "springy" & very effective, but constructing it for that effect seems to be a little over the top for simple trench club.

It's probably what was commonly called a "swagger stick", which was a kind of emblem of rank carried by officers and some senior non-coms in some armies. Very common in the British Army at one time. It's been a while since I've watched it, but you'll probably not find Alex Guiness without one in Bridge over the River Kwai.
