    Hi,

Great to see a couple of bars on this award, it is of course a very common award and very much available being made into the last decade. The point of seeing a couple of bars on the medal is VERY nice indeed, I like this one of yours.

Post war issue of course as indeed most Allied medals (Inception of course not being issued) are, straight after or some time post the war, but still significant in my opinion.

Lets see some some more Dutch medals from these brave people.

Any chance of a reverse picture please. At a guess and I say guess only, this looks more modern made than earlier........I must see the back please.

    Kind regards,

    Marcus

Here out of interest is a packet for one

          Hi all:

Here's my one medal from the Netherlands. It's the Cross for Important Military Operations (better known as the “Expedition” Cross) with bar for „Zuid-Celebes 1905-1908” in its original cardboard box from J.M.J. van Wielik of The Hague. This one came wrapped in a wax paper jeweler's price list for other orders and decorations (check out http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...ad.php?t=38385) :

Nice one Eric, you do have an eye for nice quality medals

            Dutchcollector,

Yes my belief is affirmed this would be a later issue medal, in fact you can tell this from the colour and look of the actual medal 'gong'.

The other medal you posted I would think is much earlier, very much so.

All in all, later issue or not it's very nice with those bars, and I wish it resided in my collection.

I have an avid interest in Belgium, French and Dutch medals.......I love the Belgium medals ! Dutch medals, I don't see that often; they're cheap enough and certain ones are certainly numerous........I think they are very much worth buying.

            Kind regards,

            Marcus

PS This is only my novice opinion and don't it take as gospel, I'm NO expert by any means.

Here is a bronze Long Service medal (12 years) with tag of the same maker as the Expedition Cross posted: van Wielek. The bronze and silver medals were instituted 19 Feb 1825. This type with "J" for Queen Juliana (it's on the back and can't be seen, but trust me!) was issued from 25 Jan 1951 until 20 May 1983, until it was switched back to W. This is the 27mm version. Before 1928, the bronze and silver medals were 37mm. The gold medal, instituted 13 Apr 1859, has always been 27mm.

Here is a pre-1928 Silver (24 year) medal. It is 37mm, and has a Caduceus, or Mercury Staff, mint mark on the rim, which is the mark of the Rijks Munt.

And one of the most attractive orders anywhere IMO, the Order of Oranje-Nassau. This is the Civil Officer class, but is missing the rosette on the ribbon.

For the Decoration for Order and Peace (Ereteken voor Orde en Vrede), there were originally five clasps: "1945", "1946", "1947", "1948" and "1949". Two more - "1950" and "1951" - were later added.

The Commemorative Medal for Peace Operations (Herinneringsmedaille Vredesoperaties) has about 25 clasps, most recently "STABILISATION FORCE IRAK". The earlier Commemorative Medal for UN Peace Operations (Herinneringsmedaille VN-Vredesoperaties) relied primarily on different colored ribbons to identify various operations, but there was a clasp "LIBANON 1979" for those who served there between 14 March 1979 and 2 October 1983.

This one belonged to my grandfather. He fought against the Germans in May 1940. I also have the reward document.
