    Romanian Grand Cross

    Hi,
I just came back from the San Diego Militaria show and found this beauty. A Romanian Order of the Crown Grand Cross. This is an early civilian award. The obverse is beautifully crafted with nice enamel and measures approx 87mm. The reverse shows the manufacturer "Josef Resch & FIU Bucuresci."

Does anybody have information regarding this award? Was this award also given to Military personal and who would get such a prestige award? Anybody knows who is the mfr?

          Grand cross

          Hello Renez,

The manufacture can be found on the reverse disk +> unfortunatly i can not read it ( the picture is to dark ) , i can read Bucaresti so thats the place where it is produced => Bukarest
and it wil be probably Resch or something similar .

There doesn't seem to be much of an interest in these Rumanian Juwels .

          Greetings,

            Hi:

This is one of my all time favorite decorations. I was fortunate to get a cased Josef Resch et Fils civilian Grand Cross set, sash and all, some time ago for a song (in fact, I have seen Turkish Iron Crescents priced higher!). Resch did some of the finest pre-WW II work and their products are of the highest quality.

It is my understanding that of the pre 1932 pattern of the Order of the Crown, some 25 Grand Cross sets were awarded.

            A lovely thing...congrats!

              Hi Rene,

              nice one!

The Orders were limited for Rumanian owners to the following numbers:
200 Grand Crosses for Civil Merit
50 Grand Crosses for Military Merit
              Foreigners had no restrictions.
Your Star is Civil. The Military division had the Crown attached on the top of the badge and for acts of bravery additional the swords.

Only the Monetary National in Bukarest MADE Orders in Rumania. All the others were MADE in Germany (Paul Telge in Berlin, and C.F. Zimmermann in Pforzheim), even if it is written "Bukarest" on the badge. Heinrich Weiss and Resch and sons put their Marks on the badges, but they were "only" the dealers.

              Best Greetings

              Daniel

                Thank you.....

Thank you gentlemen for your help! It is a very rare award if only 200 Grand Crosses were awarded for civil merits.

                Kind regards
                Rene
