Unknown Plate HELP !!

It's about 2 1/2" X 2 1/2 ".

Early, probably WW 1, Italian Bersagaliere helmet plate- the drill hole isn't normal and one rifle butt broken off. I haven't seen the lead backing before...but only handled WW 2 era stuff primarily. Normally a number or "Cross emblem" went on the center where the hole is now.

Looks early IMO.

I would say, reused in a Theater. I saw such "Rapes" of insignia quite often. I would bet the hole is for an extra Attachment to have the badge more fancy.
