This is the medal that Don is wondering about and so am I for that matter. (circled below in red) This medal has a very heavy amount of wear that is not consistent to the other medals on the bar. From the picture, it gives me the impression of being cast from aluminum. That could explain why it is worn down so much as aluminum is pretty soft. The original Prussian Long Service Medals were die-struck from bronze, tombak, or German-silver so they would not wear to this degree. I'm thinking that this recipient may have lost his original award specimen of the long service medal and a somewhat crude "replacement piece" was made so that his medal bar could be completed as he wanted it. Whatever the explanation for this strange looking medal, I feel that it is a perfectly legitimate thing that was done at the time of the assembly.
Seeing the additional pictures only confirms my initial "gut feeling": This is a terrific medal bar and completely original, in my opinion.
Best regards,

Thank you for your explanation. I have to agree with you everything looks untouched on this so I think you are right about the replacement.
