Strange Moroccan / French bronze plaque

Hello folks. This is another item I acquired from the same veteran group as the M40 S/D army currently on the e-stand. I believe his uncle fought in N. Africa as well, as the best I can tell the lettering atop "Reserve" is Arabic, presumably for the same word. I don't know if it's got any military connotation or not, but found it interesting enough to toss up here for your perusal and possible commentary. If anyone can shed some light on this item, I'd appreciate hearing from you! Thanks.

Just looks like a parking sign. Could be police/Military or some sort of grand politico Pubah could also be for a restaurant or theater but my favorite guess would be that it is used in a high end bordello for some of the more popular attracions

    Neat item non the less

Hi, thanks! Yes, I suppose it could be for just about anything, pretty high-end though, being made of either bronze or brass, etc. (looks like bronze). I'd be interested to know if the Arabic is the same as "reserve" or if it says something else in addition. Thx for your comments!

How about a table sign from a classy restaurant [or even a church pew]?

Well, don't think so due to its size. It measures 8 1/2 x 5 1/2...a bit large for a dinner table, but again, anything's possible.

"Reserve" with the 2 acute accents translates to "reserved" so I'd agree that is was probably attached to what we call "a Gucci parking slot".

My guess would be railway use, to show that a wagon would be reserved for troops or government officials, when hung on the sides.

              Regards, Giorgos

THAT makes some sense, especially due to its size and bulk. I believe I also have a few Moroccan bank notes, etc. Guess the jury's going to be out on this one for a while!

I know them from the Railway's to hold individual Compartments.
They have nothing to do with military or Government use.
For everybody who reserved seating or a complete compartment would find such sign. To put it on, every Compartment had a brass fitting screwed to the fixed side next to the Door of it.

P.S.: today in Germany they use Paper tags for this use, clipped into a frame at the Door.

Hi Nico. Yes, as far as small paper reserved seat cards in the German rail system, I know them well as I'm a frequent train traveler there myself. The train use does make sense, its the best theory so far I must admit. Perhaps one that'd be fitted to the exterior of a specific car rather than on an individual door or compartment though, due to its size. Thx!
