    Brain Teaser

Here's one for ya'll. What's this? I know what it is, but do you? And no, it's not the new Afghan campaign medal (chance would be a fine thing).

    Hi Tony,

It doesnt look like a new created medal. I think they wouldnt use such a young QE II - portrait like in the 60ies.

But if they do I could only imagine the 50 Years Coronation medal, although the ribbon style doesnt fit with the former jubilee medals.

So what is it??? Tell us!!!!

    Best greetings

    Daniel

      Oh.. go on then!

Well I suppose I'd better spill the beans, as I doubt anyone will get it. It's the Malawi Independence Medal. Now then, here's another one. What was Malawi formerly known as before independence?

Bang on! It was called Nyassaland. Malawi also incorporated Northern Rhodesia.

Bechuanaland! Tanganyika! Names out of the geography textbooks of my grammar school years...

the LAST time I ever had geography in school, BTW. The Congo was still un-Belgianizing...

haven't a clue where any of these anagram independent countries are (some of them have changed several times, anyway)...

why, I almost go back to Eritrea!

Kinda like reading place names out of the Gospels! ("For lo, they shook off the dust of Bythnia from their sandals, and departed from such stench of wickedness and vice...")

Ah... the Bythnia Independence Medal is quite scarce. There were only 21 issued! I believe it became Bongobongoland!
