China PLA watches on ebay..... worth it?

Hi everyone. Was looking through the chinese militaria on scambay and saw a selection of watches from the Chinese People's Liberation Army.

Now, I have ben warned several times over a few forums about the authenticity of chinese militaria on the net and espcially ebay.

So just wondering what you guys think. Worth picking one up?

    #and heres hoping I don't start a bidding war......#

      khorgor,

For the vast sum of just over $3.00 why worry? Where else could you buy a watch for that price, fake or otherwise?

      Regards,

      Gordon

        gordon,

yes you are very very right. I phrased my thread incorrectly. I really should of asked if they were the real deal, price or not.

and regarding that price in particular - check out the postage. A whopping $25. just one the tricks ebay loves to pull.

But I'll give it a go and will post here when I get them and maybe see if they are the real deal anyways :-D thanks for your reply

Well, the $25 is not a ebay trick, but the seller's trick to start at a low price and surprise you with the shipping if you don't see it. Ebay condones this practice. I think shipping from China for a watch should be about $10.

The Chinese sellers also do this with the [fake] swords. They usually want to sell it at $100+, but set the starting bid at $10 and shipping at $95. Some people are usually tricked into bidding because of the low starting bid.

            PLA Watch

            Korghor,

I live and work in China and often see many of these types of watches in military supply stores. As far as I know, there is no such thing as an official PLA watch. Instead, a PLA member or anyone with cash, can choose from numerous types of 'military' style watches which retail for about 100 RMB (approx $15 USD). FYI, high ranking career PLA officers prefer real Swiss 'military' watches (ie. Rolex etc.)!
