    Spainish?

Anyone familiar with Spanish orders out there? I think so! Here's a gold example of the Isabella cross. Can anyone date or tell me which period it is from? It has the 'diamantine' type of finishing.....gracias de verdad!

      Hello Eric,

This Order was instituted by Fernando VII on 24/III/1815 with the name of "Real Orden Americana de Isabel la Catolica", to recompense facts of loyalty in the fight against the american uprising. In 1825 the Order turned into a Civil Order.

The one you have posted is the type instituted by General Franco in 1938. He replaced the carabel (that was on the Spanish II Republic model) by the HerculesĀ“s Columns (on the original type) on a rising sun. In the reverse initials of both Kings Isabel and Fernando replaced the crown instituted by the II Republic.

      Regards,

      Pablo
