Well, here I am...stuck in Cairo without a medals yearbook.....

Can anyone give me a rough price quote of the following....

Sudan medal, no bar named to an Egyptian
The Egypt Medal, not named with the Gemaizah bar
What I think is the Khedives Sudan medal (yellow, blue, yellow ribbon) with the bars Hafir and Firket also no mane, these seen to be a group.

The other lot I was offered was the Khedives sudan with a bar beginning with AXXXXX cant remember the battle. with this was a 14-15 star to an Egyptian
with the unit as Artillery E.A. which I assume is ARTILLERZ eGYPTIAN ARMY AND a war medal to same, victorz is missing. the price on those 3 was USD750 so ha ha ha, unless someone can tell me the Axxxxx bar is worth a fortune.

MYB Prices:

Hi Chris,

I hope this helps you out. My 2003 MYB (don't have the newest one yet but doubt there is much difference in pricing) gives the fol prices for the medals:

Queen's Sudan: 160-180 In Bronze. If it's Silver 180-220 to Brits, 125-145 to Indians

Khedive's Sudan: 2 Clasps (both Firket and Hafir are common) about 120-130.

Egypt Medal, unnamed with Gemaizah bar (180-240) but this price is for named examples to Brits...so probably considerably less with your example.

The bar on the other Khedive's Sudan is probably either:

"Abu Hamed" or "The Atbara" neither are scarce. MYB states about 100 GBP for this one.

WWI medals named to the Egyptian Army ARE fairly scarce, too bad it's not a complete trio.

OK hows this for gunboat Haggling..... a superb, wonderful, SEXY order of the Medjidjie the medal bar class, the best quality I have ever seen, sterling silver, seems like a solid gold centre, concave backplate held on with 4 splints bent over on the sides.
I got it for EUR13 (no jokes).
was Offered EUR410 by a dealer here........... should I keep or sell? What would a 19th centurz top quality piece cost?

What could I pay for a really nice order of the nile Officers class breast badge with rossette, sterling and what I assume are gold stamps, maker stamped Latte.

AND an identification if anzone feels up to it.... what looks like a purple red ribbon, with a rossette, then a wreath likethe legion de H, the medal itself is like a 5 armed maltese cross in white enamle, blue disk in the center with a crown, between each arm are rays, have seen this medal before but cant remember where.

ANNNND another one i have seen before, but no idea where. A large white maltese cross, between each arm is a thin gold rope twisted in a figure 8, a disk in the middle with a crown, on the reverse a black eagle with a crown. on its chest is a red shield with a white cross in the middle. looks to be a neck award missing its ring.

Sounds like a Belgian Order of the Crown, Officer grade.

Right on both of those IDs. The first one is a Belgian Order of the Crown and the second one is the Italian Order of the Crown.

As for the Mejidie, when you say "medal bar class" I would assume you mean a breast badge - 4th or 5th class. Crimean war era pieces had a convex (domed) back plate, attached with 4 prongs as you described. Later pieces had a concave back plate that was soldered in place. 410 Euros sounds pretty high for one of these, but if it has a concave back plate attached with 4 prongs, that could make it an interim piece from around 1870, which could fetch a premium in the right market. I think you would be hard pressed to get that much for it on Ebay. Maybe you should take it.

Well, the dealer backed down on his offer, so I will just keep it.

In the morning I will go chasing a queens Sudan, no bar "named" to an egyptian.
Fron what I see, on British medals they did not have the name, but the rank or number. ie. the medal will have "Mulazim A Artillery E.A." which means "1st Lt artillery Egyptian Army" or in the case of the sudan medal "184 13" which means soldier 184 of the 13th Bn.
Is this new to anzone else...or just me?
Does the medals year book give prices to Egyptian soldiers for the queens Sudan medal?

Queen's Sudan Medal

I have an example 'named' to either an Egyptian of Sudanese Levy. Basically a three figure number in Arabic. Offer the foreign devil eighty of her Britannic Maj's finest beerchits and tell him he's lucky to get away with a severe thrashing.
