Hello Tom,
This baby appears to be a copy of the "Collar of the Order of the Danneburg." The red outside enamel appears to be too thiin and the details are not there from my reference book. My text had an estimated value for an original at 10K. This one is being offered at 20 bucks. What do you think? What the hell, for even a 100 bucks it might be the deal of the decade, but I doubt it. -

The pictures are really bad. I don't know enough about this thing but in the imperial forum discussions, Rick and others always mention the great precision detail of the older European medals. I can't tell from the poor photos but, here we go again, what if it is a good one? I don't think so...but.. Someone has bid on this and it has crossed my mind to gamble. Right now it is only selling for the price of a great cigar.Comment

It looks like a Knight's Cross of the Danish Order of the Dannebrog, with that cypher I can't tell off hand period. They ran to Christian and Frederik the LXVIIth types (
) Margarethe is Queen now. But-- the lack of quality is appalling from these scans. Can it just be pathetic, miserable scans, or was this really pressd out of playdoh? It's enamelled on both sides, which isn't normal for the sort of uniface out of cereal boxes stuff one sees all the time.
It just looks HORRID to me, as if there are seams all around the crowns and so on. Still, the ribbon mounting looks OK.
In the flesh would be one thing, but from these scans... yuck!!!!
BTW REAL Dannebrogs are supposed to be returned to the Danish Orders Chancery after the death of the holder. I know people who enquired about pre-WWI German recipients and were told to turn the badges in!

The seller doesn't give any dimensions... I wonder if this is a miniature as that might account for the poor quality. One does encounter miniatures of varying quality in many orders, etc. In particular enamelled jobs are not always of the highest workmanship. I reckon this was because miniatures were generally privately purchased pieces and the recipient would buy whichever he/she preferred or could afford.
Just a thought.

I just re-read the description and he does give dimensions 1 1/8" x 1/2" so it is indeed a miniature.
So...I stick to my original post!

There it was, the sizes were posted right in front of me and I read right over it. Adam has one of those radar, sat-nav, domes on his hat and he doesn't miss a thing. I have to get one of those AWACs hats!Comment

Someone wants it badly........
I have bid on it twice............Why, I'll never know and I've been out bid each time. I had a feeling it was of value. I stopped around $40..........I'll sleep on it tonight and see what it is later. There are five days remaining.Comment
