    Japanese katana

    Hi,

    I am debating buying this katana. I have a feeling it is post war though. Unfortunately this is the only picture I can get. What do you all think? Based on the picture, should I pass on it. It is only $70. The owner says the handle has ray skin and silk wrapping. The blade has a tempering line. He was unable to get the peg out of the handle though. The scabbard is wood.

    Did you see this katana for yourself?
    If so, what did the blade look like?
    Was the blade sharpened? If not, there's a good chance it's one of the cheap "tourist" swords for sale all over Japan, with aluminum/zinc blades.

    The Japanese forum might be a better place to ask about this.

    $70 is an unbelievably good price IF it's a real katana. My guess is that it isn't, and the money the seller is asking is what the repros normally run for, so if you don't mind having a non-authentic wall-hanger, $70 is $70, if you know what I mean.

      The Picture Is Out Of Focus To The Point That Even The Largest Details Can Not Be Seen. In My Opinion, This Was Done On Purpose To Deceive. Without Better Pictures, I Would Pass.
