    Austrian pilot uniform

Hello, I just purchased this uniform and I'm wondering if anybody knows if the badges on it are correct. I don't usually collect Austrian items but this looks great, seems original and it didn't cost too much.

Does anyone know what the writing in the visor means?

    Thanks

    Gom Jabbar,

Very nice uniform! One I would certainly buy if I had a chance. The markings around the cap band would indicate the rank of the wearer. The markings in the cap appear to indicate the unit the pilot flew with. I envy you the uniform with all of the badges in place and I hope they are all correct. I have just become interested in collecting Austrian uniforms myself so don't have a lot of reference material on their uniforms, badges etc. Once I get home to Budapest(mid April) I'll add more information if I can.
There is not much in print about the Austrian military uniforms etc. There is a good book on the B-Gendarmerie, which later became the Bundesheer etc. but that is about it.

    Regards,

    Gordon

Judging by the rank insignia on the collar tabs, this gentleman was a Vizeleutnant (Vice Lieutenant) in the Austrian Air Force. The maroon color on the collar tabs indicates Air Force.
I found this information on a website that I have bookmarked and use very often when trying to identify rank isignia. It is: http://www.uniforminsignia.net/index...&id=83&sid=147
If you click on this link, it will take you directly to the Austrian rank page. If you search the rest of the site, you will find a wealth of information.

        Thank you both.

I hope someone knows if the bages belong to the uniform or not.

I did found out that AMRS is Austrian Military Radio Society, Strahlen Schutz is
radiation protection achievement badge and OHSV is something sport related. I couldn't find the other one yet.

the ribbon bar is out of order me thinks

Medal of Merit - bronze,Military Service Decoration - 15 Years) (1963),Military Service Decoration - 5 Years) (1963),(Bronze Military Service Medal) (1963),(Olympic Medal)1964,(Red Cross Medal of Merit - Bronze),(Medal f. Blood Donation - Silver), a badly faded UNDOF Medal, and finally some other medal I have know idea what it is

me thinks most of these were added on later. Anyway the first one is on upside down.
