    Bronze Star named

I have a US Bronze Star with V named to James W. Dixe. How can I trace this award ? Think its WWII or Korea

    Good question Ed-

If it were me, I'd go through the following references:

-KIA Lists for WW2 and Korea
-Academy registers (to see if he was an Academy guy)
-Officer Registers (both Army and Navy)
-Ancestry.com Social Security Death Index (to see if you can get his death/birth date and SSN)

And finally the National Personnel Records Center. However, without copious amounts of information, they can't be of much help (I just got back several requests of mine that needed 'more information', even though I had listed the name, SSN, ASN, DOB, DOD, source of comissioning -these were both General officers- and EVERY duty station they served at WITH DATES- BUT that wasn't enough!!!)

Unfortunately, trying to research a medal like this really plays in more luck than actual process.

    Good luck though!
