Your lid is indeed French .
The helmet is an Adrian Mdl 1915 , as used during the Great War but with an air force Mdl 1923 badge, most likely issued as such .

A rare configuration!

Hi Ron,
Exact, a WW I french adrian with a Air Force badge. The front badge had perhaps been replaced as its color is different from the two layers of blue present on the helmet.
Notice the Air Force helmets had often been repainted in black between the wars.
