    Croatian HV helmet

Hi. I posted this a couple of years ago but I thought I'd try it again. This helmet is a Czech (M29 I believe). many of these helmets went to the Spanish in their civil war. The HV stands for Hrvatska Vojska of the Croatian Army. I believe their were the militia who supported the Germans. Anyway this came back with a Lativian tunic (German) and hat. I believe the US veteran was in Chezoslovakia when he picked it up.

I would think this is a rather rare helmet -- Is anyone knowledgeable in these
or know level of rarity, approx. value, etc.?

    Thanks Dennis

Interesting helmet and I am sure it is very rare.... but maybe a lack of interest to some degree. If it was a German helm with Purina checkerboard decal then you would have guys drooling over it.

The Hrvatska Vojska is the current armed forces of Croatia. The WW2 army was called the Domobrana, or Home Defense. And they used the Purina checkerboard.

Given what the helmet is, I would suspect that HV is a Czech or Slovak acronym.

It would make sense -- the guy picked it up with the POA tunic in Czechoslovakia. What do you think a $10 helmet?

I suppose it depends on what HV actually is. If it means "city guard" or something like that, it wouldn't be worth as much as it would be if it were to some branch of the Hlinka Guard, the Slovak fascist party. I know HM is the Hlinka Youth (Mladez), but I don't know about HV. Could be Hlinka Wolves, one of the levels of the Hlinka Youth. Again, no idea for sure.
