    French?

On behalf of a good friend of mine i would like to have some opinion on this supposedly french type of hat.

My friend informed that the hat came from an area where french forces were stationed during the norwegian campaign of 1940.

It looks very military to me, with those stamps. I know that depending on the stamps and models, these things can be very very collectible.

              Hello Jean-Loup.

You truly gave me some interesting comments on this supposedly french hat. Is it possible that the hat in question could have been worn as a part of a french soldiers military equipment during the norwegian campaign of 1940?

Have you seen something similiar type of markings on military worn hats?

I am not a specialist of french militaria, but this looks too me like a chasseur alpin (equivalent of gebirgsjager) "tarte" (literaly means a tarte), that some french units that were sent to Norway were wearing. The fact that it was found in Norway, and has a 1939 stamp seems to confirm this.

I have never seen any civilian berets have stamps like that, and civilian berets arent so huge.
You will have to wait for someone more knowleadgable in french militaria to comment to get more info. For all I know it could be a fake, but if not, it is an interesting and valuble piece of militaria.

I am really interested with those tarte.
Can someone explain how to recognize the war/pre war berets, expecially used by the chasseur alpin?
I can't find any informations about!
                  maybe some french collectors?
It seems they are hard to find...

                  salut
