    Korean Mini

    Hello,

could somebody please help me identifying this Korean Mini? I bought it in Seoul in 1993 and since then was unable to identify.

    Your help is greatly appreciated.

    Greetings

It's the Order of Military Merit Taeguk, the Republic of Korea's highest military decoration. It's worn on a light blue ribbon with four white stripes on each side.

The center taeguk (yin-yang) on the miniature is rotated 90 degrees from that on the full size medal.

        Thank You!

        Dear Jeff,

thank you very much for the identification. The peice is made of three pieces than can (now) freely rotate around the central rivet, thats why it is like that. I will correct.
Do you happen to know when thje order was instated and how many were given out over the years?

I like to know as much as possible, if you don't mind.

I have another one for identification - if you please could ...

        Thank you very much again!

          Korean mini

This one is the Military Order of Merit Chungmu. It's worn on a light blue ribbon with two thin white side stripes on each side. This design and the Taeguk above were brought in about 1963 and in use through about 1975. Numbers awarded are very difficult to determine, as the Korean government won't talk about it.

The design in the center of the Chungmu is a "turtle boat", an early ironclad (essentially a roofed-over warship powered by oarsmen). They played major roles in the defeat of the Japanese fleet.
