Probably a lost cause, but are there any books on the uniforms and medals of Finland during WWII in English ?

Mark, I googled "medals and uniforms of Finland" and chose the Grants Militaria Photos site. There is a lot there that might be of help. Couldn't get into the site any other way I tried. Good luck.

There is a book on Finnish uniforms, mainly m/36 uniform, that is called Asepuku M/36 by Petteri Leino. The text is in Finnish and English. All of the medal books I have about WWII Finnish medals are in Finnish, with some English text. However, if you can wait another few months, Jani Tiainen (assoc member here) will finally come out with his Finnish medals book in English. Should be available early next year as he is currently waiting for it to be printed. Jani is at Finnmedals.com There is a very good book on Finnish Liberation War medals that is in English and Finnish, but you specified WWII. That book is Vapaussodan Muistomitalit by Jukka I. Mattila.

A few basic but good ones come to mind: from the Osprey men-at-arms series there is one called "Germany's Eastern Front Allies" which covers Finnish rank (and service?) insignia for uniforms (and hats, if I'm not mistaken). Another, though harder to come by, is Andrew Mollo's uniforms of World War II, with illustrations of Finnish Army and Airforce uniforms (and rank insignia).
