    What is this???

    1st. Question
This "jump wing" is from a U.S colonel uniform, found on the right of the chest!

    Where is it from?

    Period?

    Is it American?

    2nd. Question
What does an “arrowhead” mean on a ribbon?
    (See picture below!)

    Any help is highly appreciated!

The jump badge is Thai - Senior Army Parachutist.

The arrowhead device denotes participation in a combat parachute jump, combat glider landing or amphibious assualt landing. Only one arrowhead is worn no matter how many operations the recipient participated in.

            Hi All,
Wing is Thai, and arrow head means he was in assault, such as crossing a river or beachhead, etc...

              Dear Sir,
The arrow head device on your European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign ribbon indicates that the original owner participated in an invasion. Such as D-day. Hope this helps.
              Regards,
              Dick

Thank you VERY much, to all of you!!!

Thanks for the quick response and the information’s... Exactly what I needed!

The colonel is wearing 17th Airborne division patches on his right shoulder. So I guess this works well with the arrowhead on his European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign ribbon. I presume i took part in operation "Varsity"!?

Maybe you can answer this too:

How come an US officer is wearing a Thai jump wing?
                Is this seen often?

It wasn't uncommon for Airborne personnel to pick up this wing while serving in the Viet Nam theater (and after, when a lot more personnel moved over to Thailand). Foreign wings are given under a variety of circumstances: honorarily, for helping to establish training courses, for conducting training, and for participating in airborne exercises and operations. Badges awarded after September 1975 can only be worn in the foreign country where it was given.

In the Army, foreign qualification badges such as parachute wings may only be worn on field uniforms (i.e., BDUs) when in the country where awarded. They may be worn on Class As and Bs anywhere.

Note the Thai wings on this ugly young Ranger; friends call him Stimpy.
