Can anyone tell me what this is, the criteria for award, and what period it might be from? It's marked 'Bronze' on the edge.

Saumur

You will note at the bottom of the lid the makers address, Saumur, is a small city on the Loire River in France. This would make sense, as French paras fought in Indochina, most famously at Dien Bien Phu. I can't say when it was made, but it looks like a commemorative medallion for surviving veterans. It is a very nicely struck piece judging from the photo, and presented simply but tastefully.
