    UN hat badge?

    Howdy,

I have a UN device which I think is for a Cap but I'm not sure. It is made of some kind of heavy metal.

Yes, it's a UN beret badge. It comes in various forms, enamelled gilt metal, white paint or white plastic on gold chrome, brooch fittings, nail & butterfly clip fittings, & there are locally made cast examples with white or light blue paint on gold chrome. There is a variation of the badge you show which has "IPTF" in raised lettering on the reverse (the UN International Police Task Force of Bosnia & Herzogvina) fitted to French made UN berets sold at the Turkish military PX in Sarajevo a few years ago.

There are also a variety of embroidered versions, also bullion, & I once saw the Dutch UN police shoulder badge (UN badge embroidered on dark blue shield) worn on the beret by an US (ex Special Forces) police officer who obviously liked the similarity to US shield shaped beret badges.

      Thanks for the Info.

Is there a way to date this badge?

At a guess about late 70's onwards, as it has a fairly glossy finish (white plastic rather than white enamel?) & butterfly clips rather than brooch fitting, that's about as close as I can get.
