    RCAF uniform

This is a wonderful uniform most likely bought for walking out or going home. Has Canadian made RAF pilot wings. Why not RCAF? I cannot understand all the reasons behind the training and issue of wings and who searched where. DFC
Has Canada tabs on the shoulders but I don't think you can see them in the photo.

There's no hard & fast rules to this. He could have been a Canadian national who joined the RAF in England, who later transferred to the RCAF and retained his wings? Maybe the stocks of RCAF wings were exhausted and the only ones left were Canadian-manufactured RAF wings? Maybe they were all the tailor had? Who knows! Nice tunic though. Who made the tunic?

      Snappy tunic.

The whole RCAF/RAF issue is a common one, particulary with bomber command personal. My Granfather trained with the RCAF as a navigator eventualy flying with 625 RAF squadron (Lancasters). I don't know if he had Canadian issued navigator wings (well, 'wing' realy) or the RAF style, haven't had a look at his uniform in a long time.

      good stuff.

I would love to see a picture of your grandfather and his uniform. Think aobut it.

        Thanks,
Here are four RFC and RAF pilot wings. The top is an early RFC wing from about 1914. That is a nice RFC wings that were worn.

The bottom set appears to be of the repro variety, unless I'm very much mistaken.

I am not sure but I am thinking they are a Canadian made set of RAF wings made during WW2.
This would be nice to know.

I have a book on canadian made wings at work, but I'm off for the next week. I will try to remeber and have a look when I am back.

I haven't a picture of my Grandfathers uniform yet but I realy should. When I do I'll be sure to post it.
