I picked up a number of Original Boer war photos...
Looks a bit like what old Burt reynolds met while travelling down the river...

The Boers were suprised how bad the British soldiers shot, and by the fact that they could never judge distance.
Once after a fight where they killed a Group of brits at about 600 meters, they were astounded to see the british had their sights at the 100-200 meter graduation, either totally wrong in their estimation, or basically never setting their sights at all.
