just saw one for only $15.95 on EBAY

I just did a search and saw the model 1926 Swedish helmet for only $15.95 plus shipping!

most people never pay over $25 for that helmet

That is a very common helmet, and the one is the photo is far from the best condition.

As a lifelong helmet collector, I must ask why you're looking for Swedish helmets? I have nothing against Swedish, Swiss, Spanish or any other "less desirable" helmet. I have several Swedish helmets btw. A world collection isn't complete without them. But are you buying because they're cheap and you wan "more" helmets?

My suggestion is to find the less common of the Swedish helmets. The M26 has hardly gone up in price in 20 years, but Spanish, Norwegian and Dutch helmets have started to get rare and expensive. Just my thought.

I bought mine because it reminds me of a WWII Imperial Japanese army helmet and I was thinking of using it in my display as a Japanese helmet
and maybe repainting it and adding a helmet net, for a cheap display item that looks like a Japanese helmet without spending a lot of money on an original Japanese helmet.

I heard if you put a helmet cover on this swedish helmet, it will look just like a WWII japanese helmet.

or I could leave it grey color, because the Japanese navy used grey helmets on board ships

I don't recall ever hearing that, but I'm not a Japanese helmet expert. I'll ask Eric or Jareth.

grey japanese helmets for shipboard use

                http://www.gunboards.com/forums/topi...OPIC_ID=168170

Jareth says Japanese naval helmets were painted grey inside and out for shipboard use, navy gunners, etc.

Wow, that price is insane! I think I trew 3-4 such helmets away around a year ago.

Well, actually, that helmet is in my city, and its very rare to see militaria items in uruguay's eBay
I thought of buying it only if the price was a bargain, and could re-sell it, and get some money to buy other stuff
But i wont buy it, now that ive heard what the real price is

                    Thnks everyone for replying!!!!!!

Interesting. But that gray isn't even close to the Swedish gray. The Japanese gray is, as I expected, smooth and almost like an enamel. The Swedish paint is flat matte.

Just my feeling, but using a Swedish helmet in a Japanese display is like using a Spanish helmet with a German display. These helmets may be similar but they're not the same.

I don't think any body needs to justify why he wants a certain item.
Or be judged for what he has.

Stewart's militaria has repro helmets and parts/acessories-you might want to check them.

I almost used the "J" word. Last time I did I actually got a lecture from some guy who thought he was authorised to lecture me.

<!--StartFragment -->If this is aimed at me... well then I think you misunderstood me. I wasn't criticizing the reason for buying a Swedish helmet. I was merely trying to offer advice.

As I MENTIONED I have several Swedish helmets. Unlike a few German helmet collectors I know I don't look down at international helmets at all. I just tried to point out that for a collection I'd spend my money elsewhere as helmets that were cheap (British, Spanish, etc.) are going up in price, and Swedish helmets aren't. They were $15 in 1983 and they're about $15 in 2006. That was my point.

And I certainly never judge anyone else's collection! But whatever.

Scroll further down the page. There is a gray helmet pictured further down.
