WW2 Dutch Patches

Hi All,

One set of patches of Dutch veteran!

He ran away from Holland after German occupation, joined in the Dutch Army exile in England, he made the Officer School and fought in Asia against the Japanese.

Later....he participated of the Indochin Campaign almost died for a malaria(being deaf) and came back toward Brazil and it married a Auschivitz survivor.

The cap badge with white backing is that of the British Royal Military College, Sandhurst.

The white ivorine disc was worn by Officer Cadets & was introduced following the introduction of the big baggy beret style General Service Cap in 1943, before that a smaller disc & a lozenge shape had been worn on the beret by Royal Armoured Corps cadets & white cloth peak on the Field Service Cap.
The RAC cadets continued to wear the lozenge shaped backing, & a white cloth band continued to be worn on the Service Dress Cap ("visor").

Lion patch

The Dutch "Armed Forces" National Lion" patch is a post WW2 piece. War time versions had the wording "NEDERLAND" and sometime in the late 40's I believe they switched to "JE MAINTIENDRAI" which is currently still in use. The veteran was obviously issued this patch post ww2 while still serving in the army (in Holland?). Dutch Forces in Asia (former Netherlands Indies, not Indo China) were issued a similar Lion patch but usually these came on a tan tropical backing with the wording "NED INDIE" = Netherlands Indies, now known as Indonesia. The other patches are most likely formation badges from the (post ww2) Dutch-Indies campaign. Thanks for showing! Nick
