    Nationalist Chinese Cloud and Banner

I've had this medal in my possession for quite some time, but have never really done anything with it. The medal is the Cloud and Banner and was awarded by the Nationalist Chinese government under Chiang Kai-Shek. Many of these awards went to US servicemen in China with the bulk of those most likely going to aviators.
This piece is serial numbered on the reverse, though I am not aware of any source for identifying the recipient by the serial number.
As you can see, there is no provision for affixing the medal to the uniform. This is because the suspension ring is missing. I believe this grade was a neck award.
If anyone has a photo of a similar medal with details of the suspension ring, I would be very thankful.
Hope you enjoy the medal- they don't show up all that often.
    Allan

        Clouds and Banners...

You are correct that the suspension ring is missing. It would have been attached directly to the space in between the points of the star on the thick, silver back part of the medal. There is currently a book out now, printed in China that I.D.'s this Chinese decoration and others from China. You can find it on e-Bay or perhaps Amazon. While in Chinese, the book does list by Class with a picture, each award. Unfortunately, I am away from home and cannot refer to my reference, but one of the ways you can ascertain the degree of the award (4th, 5th, 6th class, etc.) is by looking near the tips of the big blue star, and seeing how many white stars there are as you go around. Some of the enamelling on your award is chipped away so I cannot tell how many stars there are but I see the outline of one on one of the upper points of one of the stars. Sorry I could not be more specific at this time. There is a dealer in England, www.Liverpoolmedals.com who has these fairly often on his website. You might go there for comparison. Mike

Allan thanks for posting this award. I have a couple that I wondered about. I assumed also these were given to U.S Aviators in addition to others. I have attached another Chinese order that I am not sure of it's name or grade has a low number though "2". Any help is appreciated

              Irish,
Order of the Cloud and Banner 3rd class, brest star: serial 73
Order of the Cloud and Banner 5th class, neck award
Order of Precious Tripod 3rd class, sash award

These medals look real to me and are exceptionally rare, especially if one has a serial no. of 2(I wonder who did this belong to). Did you already purchase these?

I identified these through the OMSA medal database pictures.

              Allan,
It is a 6th class award, and what jcwater posted and the OMSA database, it shows it as a breast award with the ribbon.

Thanks Hsin, yes these medals are in my collection. I do not know who they were awarded to. The "2" is an interesting number, very low.

Does anyone happen to know if the Chinese government kept a list of these awards with the corresponding serial numbers? If you have a medal (with the number) is there a way to find out who it was awarded to?

                          Thank you very much,

                          Bill
