    Insignia Help- BARSZTAITIS Patch

    i HAVE HAD THIS FOR YEARS SITTING IN THE 'WHAZIT' box. Does anyone know the country, era, and purpose of this patch?

    Did a web search and found it to be a family name; maybe it's a nametag of some sort?

      Hello Bob,

      Interesting patch. The spelling has my interest picqued.

      I don't know what it may be for but I'm almost certain that the word is Germanisized Lithuanian. The suffix letters 'TAITIS is a Lithuanian configuration. The 'SZ" combination seems to be the German equivalent the Lithuanian S with a check or v above it. The pronunciation would be as our 'SH'.

      Less likely, this dialect may have been shared along the Lithuanian /Latvian border areas.

      I'll see what I can find in my sources about this.
