I need an Identification of this mascot.

Could someone tell me any information about this mascot logo on my WW2 IRVIN Jacket? This is painted on one of my WW2 Irvin jackets and I can not find any BG or FG that had this mascot. It is WW2 era painted on and under a loop you can see that this is old and not newly painted. It is of the rear end of an Elephant with raised trunk and the initials of A.B. or A.G. or it is A.R.

    Thanks

I'm not sure it is relevant, but there was an Indian Army formation who used the 'rear view' of an ele[phanty as their insignia. The 4th Corps, IA had an elephant as its' insignia. One of it's component units, 'in support' - possibly the divisional engineers or artillery, used 'the elephants backside' as a patch. I'm sorry I can't recall which formation nor find the insignia but I'll keep looking on the off chance that it was the inspiration for this personal insignia.

Thank you, but I believe this is an aviator's jacket. Were there aviators in this Indian Army formation? I have no clue.

I had guessed it was a flier's jacket. The Indian Air Force and RAF would have supported 4th CORPS, but I wondered whether the owner of this was in India - USAAF units were - and borrowed the idea from the Indians as a personal emblem. If, for example, he were flying 'the Hump' into China delivereing supplies, then he would have been a 'support element' and perhaps thoguth the 'back end' was appropriate. It was just a thought and almost certainly not proveable.

I would go with USAAF. Never seen this patch but I have seen that ABC pattern before on a US patch. 'ABC' B we carry the load or alike

That sounds pretty logical. I have boxes of stuff that when I get things sorted out here at home, I will dig thru the stuff then ask for assistance in ID.
