Polish WW2 Grouping from Monte Cassino

Just got this from a picker this weekend. I am not sure what the two medals are on the right side (top and bottom). Any idea on how I can research the veteran?
    Thanks!

    bbeck,

The top star is the British 1939-45 star and the lower one is the British Italian Star. I am not aware of any way that these awards could be traced to an individual person.

    Regards,

    Gordon

Medals and badges are as follows (clockwise from left): Polish Cross of Valour, Polish wound badge (blue ribbon with star), British War Medal, 1939 - 1945 Star, Polish 2nd Corps Badge (#'d on reverse), 6 Lwow Battalion badge, Italy Star, Monte Cassino Cross and the 5 Kresowa Infantry Division badge. The Monte Cassino Cross is #'d. I can get a name if you provide the # (can't see it in the photo). Likewise the 5 Kresowa badge appears to be backed with one of 2 issued ID discs. It may match the recipient on the Cassino cross.

Actually found it quicker than I thought. The Monte Cassino Cross #'d 19437 belonged to the following:

            Name: Gulczyński, Antoni
            Service #: 1919/95
            Rank: Lance Sergeant
            Unit: 18th 'Lwowski' Rifles Battalion
            Monte Cassino Cross: 19437

I see a badge or shield of some sorts in the first pic that has his name on it. Can you post it please?

            Thanks,
            Greg

These two small badges were in the lot.

Interesting. The two post war civilian awards were awarded to Gulczyński. Not sure what they're for but from the motif they're likely some kind of sporting award or some such. As they're in Spanish it's hard to say what country they're from. The ID disc belongs to someone else entirely. Bronisław Piskor was his name. I don't have any info on him underhand but I may be able to dig something up. Curious that this would be in this lot as the disc is 1/2 of a pair that were worn by the soldier. Basically the equivalent of "dog tags".

Would most of these medals go with the 18th Battalion? Also do we have a date of birth of Antoni?
                    Thanks!

                      Hello,

Sorry for the slow reply but things have been a tad busy.

With respect to the details you asked for Gulczyński was born in 1919 but I don't have exact details. I could dig those up for you when I get a minute. As for the medals and badges he would have been entitled to all of them. The only puzzle to me is the ID disc to Piskor. I don't have any info on hand for Piskor so I can't connect the dots. I might be able to do so with a little bit of research. If you're not in any hurry that is.

                      Thanks,
                      Greg
