Can anyone identify this hat? I don't see any maker's marks or tags. There is a name in the hat which I cannot decipher. Any help or info is appreciated.

Ship's crew, I'm guessing. With 'S.V.' meaning something like 'Steam Ship' [Steam Vessel?] and Wladymyr being the name of the ship. Perhaps the Russian steam frigate 'Vladymyr'?

Sounds plausible. I was thinking Polish or Russian as well. Also, I thought the SV was abbreviation for Saint, such as Saint Vladimir. ...but was just a guess.

I would go for an american steam Vessel by the construction and the Buttons.
Maybe for a kind of Service or Parade Uniform of a Crewman, the other one looks like a Work Cap, maybe for the Engine Room or so.Comment

uscob, thanks for taking a look. A couple things to mention though, there is only one hat. The pic that you see with the cracking leather is actually a cover that goes over the top of the hat to protect it in storage. As for the hat itself, I'm definitely not an expert by any means on this type of headgear but if it was American I would think the ships name (or whatever is written on the front of the hat) would be written in English. It seems like SV, Wladymir is in a different language altogether.

It would not be Russian because it is written in Latin alphabet. Russian would be in Cyrillic.Comment
