    Dear Members,
can anybody give me a translation of wht was written around this wood goblet?
Also does anybody know something about the meaning of it and for what it was given or made?
    Any help will be welcome.

Here's a bit of speculation: it may have been a patriotic container for tobacco.

Any faint odors of pipe tobacco inside?

Those old letters are hard to read, but I think it reads: "Sinun poikas puolustaa, maani, aarteista ylin" which translates to "Your sons defend, my country, highest of treasures"

I agree with Eric, it's a container for tobacco. Very beautifull item!
                            Congratulations,

That is extremely high quality item - text is very poetic and it has been signed on bottom. Definetly not common war time piece of art. I'll try to see If I can find similar signature "runes" from some other items I have pictured.

If I'd known where it is from I would try guess its origins. One would easily think it is gift or souvenier of some german officer stationed in Finland - but if the 1941 means the date of manufacture this is very early for that since Germans forces came to Finland in summer 1941.

Though years most propably means the starting years of wars against Soviets, so this may be much later....

Kai, Let me know If this has been in possession of high ranking German officer
