I had the luck to pick up a couple of the old, single hanger-type shovel covers the other day from Argentina.
I believe these were first used in the 1930's and 1940's, when Argentina reequipped the military in the German style. Both covers have markings and have been painted green later in their history.
I don't know a lot about Argentina equipment. so I am hoping some fellow collectors can help me out.
One obvious question is when these covers came into use, and the next question is, when did Argentina start painting old leather equipment green? I am guessing the green paint came later, in the 1960's (?), but that is just a guess.
Both covers are well marked. They are also both slightly different in hanger attachment. The older of the two, the second one pictured on the right, has quite a number of markings, that unfortunately are not very clear.
If anyone can lend some insight into the meanings, I would be quite grateful!
Thanks!
