    Mitchell Fabric Hat

The Mitchell Fabric hat is next up as the documented examples that I have encountered all appear to be copied from the rain hat pattern. That is, single back seam crown, band at the base of the crown, and most tellingly, the single side vent grommet. However, the Mitchell hats are all sewn and not glued. From the information I have been able to gather, they were produced in Okinawa, appearing by 1962. Please post your hats and any information or field photos. To date I have only been able to locate one photograph of field use. Again, Marine Recon. Note that, at least in this view, the appearance is similar to the rain hat. Bill

    Mitchell Fabric Hat II

The following hat was brought home by a member of 2/3 Marines. He purchased the hat from a local vendor on Okinawa in April, 1962. This hat is in the collection of the Wisconsin Veterans Museum. Bill

This well worn hat came from a Marine who worked mortars in 1968. Note the remnants of the white size tag. That's what I have and hope to see more. Mitch, how about bringing your hat over and I think it is a bit different. Thanks Bill

          Hi,
bill wanted Me to add my hat here to stay with the theme. It is also different then Bill's 2 examples. First the fron view showing a nice theater made patch. This hat has some small different production methods including 2 grommets. It is also made from different material.

YEE Gods, will this relentless torrent of spectacular Items ever end

Now that is a nice hat (to take nothing away from Bills which are also superb). I've been looking for a really good example of one of these for about 3 years now but to no avail, now I know why . To have a name stencilled In Is just the icing on the cake.

Thank you both very much for sharing these treasures!
