Moving off topic a tad...but i couldn't resist posting this in a police themed thread.

One of the most interesting police images again from the magnificent bounty of the 'Life' magazine archive.

Note this Policemans qualification badges....

The wierd truck in the pics looks like a version of what we used to move troops around om bases or to training areas in the states.

Standing room only, with bars and handles to hold onto.
They would cram amazing amounts of guys into them.

Probably not approved for use today.

It was funny to hear the various animal sounds eminating from them as they passed by.

That's because we used to call them "cattle cars". Mooing just came natural when riding (or more likely standing) in one of them.

I think it's a good thing that we haven't yet seen a photo of the helmet that originally started the thread. Looking at all the period photos and reading the posts allow for it to be more of a legend than an actual item. Seeing a photo of it, would probably bring me down. Also, there are way too many fakers who read this forum (although they never post for the most part), and the less photographic information for them, the better.

one original helmet has allready been posted, so i dont know why not to post the other one, but anyway it s not up to me, i would just have loved to see it, as it must be a superb piece.

to Owen who lives in Cali , unfortuntly germany is under snow and ice., and i m freezing my a.. off.
