I see the current "surplus" stuff all the time but I'm thinking I'd like a real one from the war era. Any dealers for this sort of thing?

Are those surplus ones sold for export or were they com-bloc stuff?

They are still made and worn in Vietnam now. I live in Thailand and you can get them here although I have never seen anyone wearing one.

Yeah, Pith Helmet, mostly you see the price under 30 usd is privately made, copy of the PAVN (pre 1975 was NVA) for civilian market, some seller fail to state it in their listing and claimed it was the original piece of issued. One more thing, Real issue is always Heavier, about 360 grams, better material and stitching plus real leather chinstrap, the commercial made is about 250 grams...
