    1964 Dated USMC Tropical Pack

    Hey guys:

I just picked up an odd little pack I've never seen before. It is dated 1964 in 2 places, has a rain flap inside, velcro pockets on the front and some straps I've never encountered.

What is this thing? It looks like it could have lots of attachments and add-ons. It came in the effects of a retired USMC lifer who was in from the early 50's to 1979.

    Thanks,

It is part of a nylon equipment tested by the Marines. It evolved into another pack of similar design in 1970, except there were no shoulder straps as is attached to the nylon suspenders.
I do not think this equipment made it to the field, either in 1964 or 1970.
        Very nice early variant anyway!

          Thanks

Thanks for the info. The inside flap is marked "USMC XM-1964". It sure looks very used, and the fellow who had it was in VN in 66-67. Lots of stains and wear. I kinda like it!

          Thanks again,
