I am not sure if this is the forum for this flag because I am thinking it is South Vietnamese because I always thought North Vietnamese was all red with a star. It came from a guy that picked it up from his friend in 1971 as a bring back. That is the story I was told but I was wondering if anyone thinks it is authentic. Any help would be appreciated.

Viet Cong...
'The Việt Cộng also known as the National Liberation Front, was a mass political organization in South Vietnam and Cambodia with its own army – the People's Liberation Armed Forces of South Vietnam (PLAF) – that fought against the United States and South Vietnamese governments during the Vietnam War, eventually emerging on the winning side. It had both guerrilla and regular army units, as well as a network of cadres who organized peasants in the territory it controlled'

That one looks pretty good but I suspect that there as many reproductions of those in the USA as there are originals, I recall at a Pasadena Texas gun show 25-30 years ago an ol' boy had a stack of them that his wife had made and selling for about $15 each and they were moving. I have since seen other replica ones being sold but not in that volume. I would not know what to look for to guarantee one is good.

By the way, it's a North Vietnamese communist flag as shown in the below photo the last day of Vietnam war when the NVA tank rolled in the South Vietnamese presidential palace.

Vietnamese Flag
Thanks for all your replies. A friend of mine gave me this flag in 1971 that he brought back from Vietnam. I posted it because I wasn't sure if it was North Vietnamese since I saw ones that were all red with the star. I don't know why the star is off center. If he was still alive I would ask him for more details about it.
Thanks,
Del

Nice flag....as “original” as they come per your own comment. Came from a friend who brought it back from S. Vietnam in 1971.
I’ve posted a few that had been brought back by a US Army CSM & another from an US Army ABN Captain ...both served in S. Vietnam. The CSM died in a helicopter accident in S Vietnam.
I like the flag and you should find out as much as you can about your friend who passed away. Write it down and keep it with the flag. To honor him and provide history to a piece (story) vs. Allowing the info to be lost in time...and this flag being just a VC flag.
Honor your friend

I agreed with Dale Ellis so I took a close look at the flag. Besides the star is way off center and crooked, I noticed the star is only on one side of the flag which is a no - no. Especially the communists, they are always fanatic about their $h1t. I'd say this flag is made by an amateur for whatever reason it was.
