I have no problem with the flag that started this thread.

I have owned a lot of vet bring backs that were only one sided.

Flag looks fine for what it is. VC, being irregulars had lots of makeshift and cobbled together things. Unreasonable to say they should be a certain style, dimension, or any other standards.
Some SF Camps, out in the sticks, mine included, had folks in our dependent villages turning out things like this. Montagnard crossbows as well. They were sewn on treadle powered old time machines and would be indistinguishable from real ones in terms of actual authenticity. We did a good business exchanging them for chow and other things passing folks might have. A Camps were at the hairy end of the gut in terms of supplies and goods. We were supposed to furnish our own food. Aircrews on supply planes were good customers. Some places even added some holes and maybe some chicken blood.

Yes...the VC, who lived out in the jungle and in the field and villages had to have an official Commie flag inspector approval, QA, and stamp to make a flag.

Get real....they were out in the jungle. Period!!

Too many SME opinions...it’s a VC flag that was made out in the field...and brought back and passed thru some hands.

You're one that needs to get real. Read the first post. In it he said he got it from a friend who got it from a friend who brought it back. Then a few post down he said his friend brought it back. I also find it hard to believe that anyone could not figure out that it is a VC flag. Now I do believe it probably did come back from Vietnam but also believe it is probably made as Mike said as a trade item.

I believe it isn't necessarily a trade item.
What I mean is that some were made at very low echelons, which could be a sewing machine in a bunker, a tunnel complex, where ever.
My point is that they would be indistinguishable.
No way would any type stamp or approval be on them.
North Vietnamese might be more regulated.
Here is a pic of a combo sewing and tea shop in the village outside my A-Camp,
You can see the scarves on a couple of the guys. they served different purposes.
            They were also made here.

              Vietnamese Flag

Yes, I got it from my friend that was in Vietnam but when I asked him where he picked it up he said his friend gave it to him while they were in Vietnam.

Sorry for the confusion. I just didn't get into specifics.

                VC Flag.

Looks fine, based on the only one I have to hand.
When I last visted Robin Miller, (2009) he took me to his war room.
He had a VC Helmet, gas mask and a couple of jungle made M1911's.
Just before I left, he pulled out 3 flags from a drawer, 2 silks, 1 cotton
and said choose one. I remember he right away lent down and took
one away and said not that one. I can only think, his mind flashed back
50 years and it had a special meaning for him.
Anyway, I chose the well used one and thanked him. He explained that when
they shot up any VC's, the young 18 year old (gung ho) gunners, always
wanted him to land and strip the bodies. (Of course Robin was the judge of
that) That way, they got a fair share of these and weapons etc and left behind
their calling card. Robin was no REMF, so I did not ask him to write a cover
note. I will never sell it while he is alive, probably not at all, unless I need to
put food on the table. I use it as a base for my Joe white display, pretty crude
and has double stitching on the star. Looks bright in the outside shot and as
you can see, the star is all over the place. Robin also related, that these were
often left on the top of the jungle canopy, bobby trapped.
                John.

I think I'd ask him to write a note on the flag just for the historical record.

Looks like it is intended to hang as a banner rather than fly as a flag.
