    Prinz Georg Rgt 108 buckle

    Dear collectors,
    I had the link to the mentioned buckle already posted in the buckle section and had one assessment on it that pointed to `unsure´. I had some other feedbacks that indeed give it a good chance. The seller has a lot of crappy stuff and some goddies inbetween. One assessment is, that the appearance in the pics is due to a high degree of polishing.
    May I just (to safeguard) ask for your thumbs up or down?

      I see you're in a pickle (difficult position) here. I am by no means an expert with these type buckles. It is a very hard buckle to find, and, a Unit marking puts it at the top. A "one-looker" would be an easy … this is not one of them. It has issues as you mentioned. I'm not sure of its authenticity. It has been cleaned, or polished. Is the marking correct? I don't know. Alan is good with these, maybe he will provide his expertise. IMO, the price is also a little steep. Bottom line, I cannot answer your question, nor can the others. This might be a sign. Good luck. Hopefully, others will chime in.

          I give it a thumbs down due to the non-typical unit marking, the lack of a manufacturer mark and the lack of any observable wear.

            Thank you very much for the efforts you took on you and the kind posts. Indeed a pickle (learnt some new vocab as well...: ))

            The reference buckle is a good blueprint. I roamed the net and found quite a few legit variations in construction and set up of these rare buckles. It is a difficult one.

            I now found out that it has a DRGM stamp in the prongs. I saw markings with bigger and smaller R stamps (in comparison to the numbers) and the shown _ mark between on legit buckles. Unusual is the finishing I. I got it for closer inspection. The patina is good and it has scratches and the usual decay and decolorisation and spots that don´t look deliberately attached. The disc has dents and some little bruises in the upper part of the edge cord. The little wear on the obverse is of course of interest as well.

              The D.G.R.M. marking makes all the difference. That would account for the non-issue features since it is a private purchase piece. So, I will cautiously change my assessment. I do like the the way the soldering of the roundel looks on the reverse. It's a nice job with that concave look one likes to see.

                Hi Chip, thanks a lot for sharing for your afterthoughts.

                For those wondering- The seller sent me the buckle for closer inspection and I made new pics, also finding the DRGM marking on the claw and sent them to a kind member offering some help. He was coincidentally able to show them to Chip, too. The sellers pictures were very bad and the greasy polished apperance was only due the bad camera as well as strange slurs on the disc that appeared in his pics. Luckily in real all these issues were not to be seen.
