Baden Pickelhaube For Help & Comments Please

I just acquired this Pickelhaube in a garage sale and was hoping for some information and help.

    1. Is it WW1 vintage or pre WW1?
    2. Is it an Officers version?
    3. Is the helmet plate damaged (ie no crown) and was this intentional?

    4. It is missing 3 of the 4 star shaped nuts. Does anyone hae 4 that measure 15mm that I can replace the missing ones with?

    Thanks, Tom.

      3.

I also just noticed that the helmet plate has a completely blank scroll. It has almost all of its gilding but no lettering at all.

      Thanks Tom.

I agree, and I think it's worthy of restoration.

I don't agree that this is a firemans pickelhaube. 1st is the spike, firemans pickels had a blade. Fireman helmets also didnt have a spine on the neck brim. If this was a firemans pickelhaube body with officer pickelahube parts, I would expect to see remnants of where the original blade used to be. For replacement screws, your best bet is posting over at https://www.pickelhaubes.com/bb/

                  Baden Helmet

Thanks guys for info so far. I don't think firemans helmet either but rather a Military helmet. Any other info re the helmet plate would be appreciated. Thanks, Tom.

This helmet is not a Baden Military Helmet. It's a Baden Police Helmet.

Here's the thread as to what it is: http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...ghlight=police

We saw one of these very unusual configured Baden helmets in the past 2-years that member Martin Guerre from Europe had posted. His has silver fittings on it, and M94 side posts for a chinstrap on it. Otherwise the two helmets have the same very unusual characteristics and fittings on them that are not typical for what we would know to be a Baden Military Helmet. That's because they are Baden Police Helmets.

Martin's helmet has the same fluted spike on it like this one does. (Remember everyone, Baden Military Helmets didn't use fluted spikes on them, generally speaking.)

His helmet also has 2-Baden kokardes on it. Normal Baden military helmets only wore 1-Baden Kokarde on the helmet. But the Baden Police Helmets wore 2-Baden Kokardes on them such as this one does.

Martin's helmet also had a Baden Griffen front plate with No Crown on the head like this one, and it also has No Motto on the scroll on it.

The neck of the spike base has a pearl only ring on it, which would be NCO rank on an Infantry helmet, or on Dragoon helmets with a pearl only ring on the neck of the spike base is for enlisted Dragoon persons.

I believe this is some sort of a hard to find Baden Police helmet, possibly WW1 or more likely from the 1920's era since it looks like there was never a crown on the head of the griffen.

                    Best Regards,

                    Alan

Alan nailed it, this is a Police helmet, still a very nice helmet and find.

                        Baden Helmet

Wow. Thanks guys. This is probably in gold as I think it must be an Officers version. It is a US vet WW2 bring back that has been in the family since the war.
They used it frequently to dress up at Halloween. Ouch. I saw it sitting on a rock outside their house as part of a garage sale. They also has a beautiful WW1 US uniform and WW2 small size Party flag that I picked up. Thanks, Tom.
