Imperial russian uniform--branch?

someone please say if this appears real (sorry seller pics not mine) came from a deceased, russian-speaking us foreign service officer's estate. I'm thinking ca. 1900 and maybe artillery - junior officer (?)

the bullion braid is silver, the gilt (?) buttons show the imperial eagle with cyrillic backmark, no other markings apparent at all on this tunic. the black front placket or panel is velvet.

Beautiful tunic. The double headed eagle looks indeed Russian. I have no idea of the value of non-German militaria. Better check with those collect Russian items.

It's the new parade uniform introduced just before WWI started, but which only a minority of regiments had issued before the project was halted because of the outbreak of the war. These uniforms were supposed to be the khaki field uniform with colored plastrons attached to become the parade uniform. Black facings with red piping would be artillery, but with silver embroidery instead of gold makes me think this is the engineer branch instead.

The jacket has artillery buttons and the right color combination. The artillery and engineer branches had the same uniforms except for the button color. Engineering would be silver colored and artillery gilt (golden). As mentioned these dress uniforms were not widely distributed throughout the army, so I would think they are quite rare. Finding the proper epaulets might not be very easy, so you have to factor that into your decision and what you are willing to pay.
