Very interesting. From the lack of replies, I don't think anyone else has seen this either. I certainly have not.
However, it looks good to me. While these are not my specialty, I have owned several in the past and seen many fake and original chinstraps.
It seem unlikely to me that anyone would reproduce a chinstrap like this. Not cost effective. But have you researched repro chinstraps to see if anyone does?
You really need a couple of the experts to chime in here. Good luck!

I have seen many variations of Pickelhauben chinstraps, but this is a first for me as well. Some I thought were reproductions turned out to be good. Having said that, I would have not have a problem with this one. There is a very good pinned WWI chinstrap thread on ghw2. If this is one of those variations you might want to post it there for future reference. I have seen no reproductions like this. I would like to here thoughts from Karel, Hans, and a few others.

Like Chuck, I've seen a lot of different chinstraps over the years. First time for me that I've seen one exactly like this as well.
I have no problem believing it is original.
Looks like it was made that way, possibly to keep the kokardes tight against the side of the helmet with the different size/width differences on the M95 chinstrap attachment area of the mounting lugs.
It makes me think of the several enlisted, issue marked helmets that I have that would have worn chinscales in garrison, and chinstraps in the field, and how several of them won't fit a set of chinscales on them when in theory they would have worn chinscales in garrison.
Best Regards,
Alan
